Service Updates

Wellington CBD

16-Nov-2016 10:00 a.m. - Minal Gulabdas
Wellington CBD remains a challenge with several streets still closed to vehicles and foot traffic. Two major buildings in Molesworth and Featherston Streets are considered close to collapse. Numerous other buildings are still under inspection and access is denied. Civil Defence has given an undertaking that they will have a clearly picture of what areas the public will have to by tomorrow so at this stage we have only a limited service offer to the CDB.

Westfield Queensgate remains closed until further notice.

SH1 North and South is down to one lane in places after yesterday’s flooding so access up the Kapiti coast is still limited and dayrun services to these areas is currently under consideration and may be withdrawn again today.

Masterton is open and dayrun services will operate as normal.

Road service linehaul delays into and out of the South Island will continue until further notice as we work with diversions that necessitate alternate routes from SH1 between Christchurch and Picton.

Ferry services are running but with reduced services and capacity until the Aratere comes back in to service and the berths in Wellington and Picton are repaired.

Airfreight volumes have substantially increased necessitating additional flights and delaying some services which result in later than normal delivery times for some regions.

It is important to note that Freightways have geared up across the business to manage the day to day challenges whilst making sure Health and Safety is paramount. This includes adding additional drivers to maintain compliance with driving hours and standby resource for when access to Kaikoura is made available.
