NZTA Updates

Both Cook Strait ferry operators have cancelled all sailings today as a safety measure until the port facilities at both Wellington and Picton can be assessed by engineers.

State Highway 1 from Blenheim through to Kaikoura has been closed with extensive damage reported.

KiwiRail report that the rail network south of Picton is also closed due to damage caused by the earthquake. Many of the routes in the area remain closed pending inspection by engineers.

As a result, most businesses in Wellington have either closed or are not accepting deliveries until access is restored and their sites have been deemed safe to enter.

The disruption to the Cook Strait ferry schedules will cause significant delays to interisland transport and the closure of roads in the South has meant that some of our vehicles cannot make their destination at the scheduled times. Please therefore expect significant delays over the next 48 hours until roads reopen and the Cook Strait ferry operators advise their alternate schedules.

We appreciate your patience whilst the transport / couriers companies are doing their best to limit delays.
